The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a six-count charge against 27-year-old Innocent Chukwuemeka Onukwume for allegedly calling for the overthrow of President Bola Tinubu’s administration through a military coup.
Onukwume, a resident of Umusayo Layout in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, was accused of making the inciting posts on his X account, @theagroman, in October 2025.
According to court filings, the case — FHC/ABJ/CR/610/2025 — was lodged before the Federal High Court in Abuja by the DSS and submitted on November 11, with A. M. Danalami representing the agency.
The charges allege that Onukwume not only called for a coup but also sought the support of military officers to carry it out.
In one of his posts, he allegedly wrote: “A coup in Nigeria is needed. Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigeria government and join the AES. That is all we need now.”
In another post cited by prosecutors, he reportedly stated: “Tinubu has to go and APC has to die for Nigeria to have any semblance of normal life. And if you think your stupid, votes can remove Tinubu. I’m here to tell you that you’re a fool.”
The DSS said Onukwume’s comments constitute criminal offences under Sections 46A(1) and 59(1) of the Criminal Code Act, as well as the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (as amended).
The agency stated that his posts posed a threat to national security and that he was arrested in Port Harcourt last month following intelligence monitoring of his online activities.
Court proceedings in the case are expected to begin later this week in Abuja.
