The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that the Federal Government and the military high command will ensure full protection for all soldiers carrying out lawful duties.

Badaru gave the assurance on Wednesday in Abuja while addressing journalists during a ministerial press briefing ahead of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

His remarks came in response to questions about the recent altercation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and a Navy Lieutenant over a disputed piece of land in Abuja, reportedly linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo (rtd).

Speaking on the matter, Badaru said the ministry was already reviewing the situation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding military personnel performing legitimate duties.

“Well, at the Ministry, and indeed the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty,” he said. “We are looking into this issue, and we assure that any officer on lawful duty will be protected highly.”

The Defence Minister further emphasized that the military would not tolerate any harm or intimidation against officers carrying out their responsibilities in line with the law.

“So we will not allow anything to happen to him so far he is doing his job, and he is doing his job greatly well,” Badaru stated.
