A fresh protest is ongoing in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Wednesday over the death of a youth who was being chased by security men.

Irate youths welding sticks and other weapons are making bonfires on the road along Ofatedo Junction.

All attempts by the police to stop the protest were resisted by the angry youths.

Despite the volley of tear gas canisters fired by the police to disperse the protesters, they still re-grouped and continued with the protest which has reached around Ofatedo Junction and Dada Estate police station, while the youths hurled stones at the policemen deployed in the scene.

The identity of the youth who died in the accident, is not yet known.

The protest had started on Tuesday night when a patrol vehicle belonging to the JTF chased a Toyota Corolla car with four occupants along the East bypass, Osogbo. This resulted in an accident that claimed the life of one of the occupants while others were injured.

The occupants, it was gathered , were suspected to be internet fraudster.

In a spontaneous reaction to the accident, some youths armed with sticks had attacked security operatives and residents around the area.

The angry youths dumped the corpse in the Government House and vandalised a JTF vehicle.

Following the continuous protest, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola has called on the Nigerian Police to immediately launch “an extensive investigation into the circumstances and events that led to the death.”

The governor said this in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode.
