AFederal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Senator Ali Ndume following his remand at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kuje, FCT on Monday.
Justice Okon Abang on Friday said that the bail was pending the determination of the appeal by Ndume challenging his remand over his inability to produce the former chairman of the of the Presidential Pension Reform Task Team (PPRTT), Abdulrasheed Maina.
The judge ordered Ndume to produce one surety who must be a respectable member of the society and who must possess landed property in the FCT.
The judge further ordered Ndume to deposit his International Passport to the Chief Registrar of the court pending the determination of his appeal.
He directed Ndume to sign an undertaking that he would within 10 days compile and transmit the record of proceedings to the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
The court agreed with Ndume’s counsel, Marcel Oru that he has “been of good behaviour and conduct” by attending court proceedings since standing as surety to Maina despite his busy schedule as lawmaker.
Maina was on October 25, 2019 arraigned on 12-count charges alongside his son, Faisal on three-count charges bordering on money laundering, and concealment of proceeds of unlawful act.
He was eventually released in June on a bail bond of N500 million or a property in Asokoro with Senator Ndume as his surety.
