There was commotion at Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State on Tuesday, following a clash between some alleged rice smugglers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service in the Community.
Three persons believed to be residents were said to have been killed by stray bullets as the customs officials engaged the alleged smugglers in a gun duel.
The customs officers were said to have stormed the area based on intelligence report that smuggling activities were taking place in the neighborhood.
The incident which happened at the Kikelomo area in Ayetoro in the early morning of Tuesday was said to have forced residents to desert the streets.
The stray bullets were allegedly fired by customs officers who arrived the area to evacuate the alleged smuggled bags of rice.
One of the victims, identified as Sola, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet while riding a motorcycle in the area.
The Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Ogun Command, Ahmed Oloyede, could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
The customs spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, could also not be reached when our correspondent tried to reach him.
