Residents of Irese community in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State have called on the state government to find solutions to the incessant flood incidents in the community.
It was gathered that flooding has taken over the roads in the town, making vehicular movement to and from the community difficult.
The residents lamented that the only ‘tarred road’ to the town had been in deplorable condition for years and was getting impassable since the rainy season began.
Speaking on the development, the monarch of Irese town, Oba Ahmed Saka, who expressed worry over the danger of plying the road during the rainy season, appealed to the state government to assist the community in constructing a better road with drainages for the community in order to prevent the community from being cut off as a result of the flood.
He further lamented that vehicle owners in the town and commuters spend unquantifiable man-hours whenever the road is submerged by the flood.
“Although we appreciate the state government for the ongoing construction from Akure to Irese Road, It’s a kind gesture and welcome development by our people.
“But we are pleading that the same gesture should be extended to Irese and other towns in Ifedore because this is the only road that links both Ifedore and Akure South LGAs together.
“And in doing this, this issue of flooding taking over the major road of the community would stop, and residents would finally heave a sigh of relief without any fear of their house, shops or businesses being submerged.”
