The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) will keep its tax offices open on weekends throughout June 2025 to support companies during the peak tax filing season.

FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, gave the directive as part of efforts to enhance taxpayer convenience and reinforce the agency’s commitment to customer-focused service. This was revealed in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi.

Under the new schedule, FIRS offices nationwide will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays, starting from June 14 through June 29.

According to the statement, the weekend service is designed to assist companies whose financial year ends on December 31 to meet the statutory deadline of June 30 for filing their Companies Income Tax (CIT) returns.

The directive was formally communicated to staff by the Coordinating Directors of the Large Taxpayers Group, Government and Medium Taxpayers Group, and Emerging Taxpayers Group; Ms. Amina Ado, Dr. Dick Irri, and Mr. Kabir Abba, respectively.

In a joint internal memo, the directors stated:

“The month of June represents the height of the annual Companies Income Tax filing season. To support taxpayers, improve service delivery, and ensure optimal revenue collection, the FIRS has approved extended weekend operations for all tax offices throughout June.”

The move is expected to ease the pressure on taxpayers and ensure timely compliance, while also boosting government revenue collection during the crucial filing window.
