President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to Benue State following the deadly attack on Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area, where over 200 people were reportedly killed by armed herdsmen last Friday.
The President touched down at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi around 12:58 pm and was received by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Also present to welcome him were Senate Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, other members of the National Assembly from Benue, as well as North Central governors, ministers, and top government officials.
Despite heavy rainfall, school children were made to line the streets to sing the national anthem as part of the welcome ceremony for the President and his entourage.
President Tinubu proceeded to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, where he visited survivors of the attack. He later moved to the Benue State Government House to engage in a town hall meeting with local stakeholders.
The meeting is part of a broader effort to find lasting solutions to the recurring attacks by armed herdsmen that have plagued the state for years.
