The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a strong warning to its patrol officers nationwide, urging them to steer clear of bribery and all forms of misconduct while carrying out their duties.
This directive was given by the new Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC Zone RS12HQ, Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Yakubu Mohammad, who resumed duty on Friday in Bauchi. The zone oversees Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno states.
Mohammad noted that mechanisms are already in place to track down and discipline any officer found engaging in corrupt practices. He stressed that both givers and receivers of bribes would be prosecuted in line with the law.
Addressing journalists, the new FRSC zonal head appealed to road users in the three states to cooperate with personnel on the highways, especially with the rainy season drawing closer. He emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations to ensure public safety.
He also encouraged all officers under his command to stay committed to their responsibilities, pointing out that the current FRSC leadership under Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed is focused on consultation, accountability, and performance-based rewards or sanctions.
The FRSC boss assured the public of the Corps’ readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies, adding that the agency would continue working closely with other security outfits and stakeholders to promote a safer road culture in the region.
In line with Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed’s mandate, ACM Yakubu reiterated his commitment to public education, emergency response, and strict enforcement of traffic laws across the three states.
He also advised drivers to take advantage of the FRSC mobile app to stay updated on Corps activities and better regulate their driving habits. He urged motorists to monitor their health by checking their eyesight and blood pressure regularly to avoid impairments that could lead to road crashes.
ACM Yakubu Mohammad takes over from Assistant Corps Marshal Jeol Dagwa, who has been redeployed to the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja as ACM in charge of Administration.
Before his latest appointment, Mohammad served as the Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Administration at the Corps’ headquarters.
