The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the suspected murder of a sex worker at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, the state capital.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, following a heated dispute between the deceased woman and a male client.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the disagreement began when the woman reportedly complained of sudden weakness during her encounter with the client and said she could no longer continue. The man, angered by the situation, demanded a refund of the N15,000 he had paid her.
Efforts by the brothel manager and other occupants to resolve the situation proved unsuccessful. The client allegedly left and later returned with two other men, believed to be his associates, and the trio attempted to forcibly recover the money.
Sensing that the situation was escalating, the brothel manager quickly alerted the police. Officers from the ‘A’ Division arrived at the scene to find the three suspects confronting the woman while her condition appeared to be deteriorating.
She was rushed to a private hospital in the Lafe area but was later referred to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
DSP Ayanlade confirmed the arrest of three suspects at the scene, while two others believed to be involved remain at large.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe. He assured the public that justice would be served and called on anyone with relevant information to come forward to assist the investigation.
