The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced that SIM-related services will be temporarily disrupted across all mobile networks in the country. This decision follows a directive from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to migrate to a new identity verification platform.
According to ALTON Chairman, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Damian Udeh, the migration process has encountered unforeseen technical challenges, affecting SIM services nationwide. The new platform aims to enhance identity management systems’ integrity and efficiency.
“However, the transition has temporarily hindered Mobile Network Operators from offering seamless SIM-related services,” Adebayo explained.
During this period, mobile network operators will not process:- SIM swaps, Replacements, New activations, and Related services.
ALTON and its member firms are collaborating with the Nigerian Communications Commission, NIMC, and other authorities to resolve the integration issues.
“We regret the inconvenience and urge subscribers to delay SIM-related requests until further notice,” Adebayo advised.
He assured the public that the telecoms industry remains committed to providing secure and high-quality services, with timely updates
