Residents of parts of Abuja have been left in confusion as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has denied any responsibility for the ongoing power outage in several parts of the city, pushing back against claims made by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
AEDC had earlier blamed the blackout affecting areas such as Dilic Hotel, Prime Plaza, Exclusive Stores, Gilmore, Takwa Crescent, and the Former Zartech area on what it described as a “technical fault” originating from TCN.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, TCN’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, refuted the claim, stating that the disruption in power supply is not from their end.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) informs the public that the power outage affecting Dilic Hotel, Prime Plaza, Exclusive Stores, PENCOM, AMCON, Gilmore, Takwa Crescent, Former Zartech, and its environ is not due to a technical fault from TCN, contrary to Abuja Distribution Company (AEDC)’s claim,” the statement reads.
“For emphasis, TCN’s feeders serving these areas are functioning normally, contrary to AEDC’s claim.”
The conflicting statements have left affected residents uncertain about the true cause of the outage, as both utility companies continue to trade blame.
As of the time of this report, no timeline has been given for the restoration of power in the affected areas. Customers are calling for transparency and swift resolution to restore electricity supply.
