President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and Niger Republic’s Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine led thousands in paying final respects to former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, who was laid to rest today in Daura, his hometown.

The late president’s body was received by a high-powered delegation that included President Bola Tinubu, Katsina Governor Dikko Radda, and several Nigerian state governors.

Following a military farewell parade, Buhari’s remains were transported by road to Daura and arrived at around 4:33 p.m. in a military ambulance. Funeral prayers were led by Imam Hassan Yusuf at the Daura Helipad.

Other notable figures in attendance included: Former Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou, Atiku Abubakar, Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Aliko Dangote and Vice President Kashim Shettima

Buhari, who died on Sunday, July 13, was interred at approximately 5:50 p.m.

President Tinubu earlier declared Tuesday a national public holiday and announced seven days of national mourning, ordering flags to fly at half-mast in honor of the former military and civilian leader.
