The Nigerian film industry is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Tom Njemanze, who passed away on Friday, July 18, after a long battle with prostate cancer.

Njemanze, renowned for his powerful roles in classic Nollywood titles such as Died Wretched, Issakaba, Osuofia in London, and Stronghold, was a beloved figure in the industry, known for his depth, charisma, and unforgettable screen presence.

News of his passing was confirmed on Saturday, July 19, by Nollywood producer Stanley Ajemba Chibueze, popularly known as Stanley Ontop, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media along with a photo of the actor during his final days.

“Good afternoon everyone. It’s another sad period as we just received news from Tom Njemanze’s family that he has succumbed to his ailment and passed on yesterday. May his soul rest in peace. It’s well. We tried to save him, but God knows best. Nollywood has lost another legend,” Stanley wrote.

Fans and colleagues across the entertainment industry have taken to social media to express their condolences and share memories of the late actor’s contributions to Nigerian cinema.

Tom Njemanze’s death marks yet another great loss for Nollywood, which continues to grapple with the passing of many of its pioneers.
