The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially approved November 15 and 16, 2025, for the election of new members into its National Working Committee (NWC).
The decision was reached during the NEC meeting held on Thursday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Recall that in April, amidst the crisis surrounding the national secretary’s position, PDP governors had initially proposed August 28 for the convention. However, the new dates were ratified as part of efforts to ensure wider participation and organizational readiness.
Reading a communiqué after the meeting, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, reaffirmed the party’s unity and preparedness for the convention, stating that the PDP remains “strong, united, cohesive, stable, and focused.”
“Pursuant to the foregoing, NEC approved the year 2025 elective national convention schedule of activities and timetable,” the communiqué read.
“Under the approved timetable, the elective national convention to elect the next set of national officers of our party will be held on Saturday, 15th to Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.”
Ologunagba also disclosed that NEC mandated Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, to formally notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the convention’s date, venue, and agenda.
He added that NEC approved the composition of the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee to guarantee what he described as a “successful, transparent, and credible elective national convention.”
In a separate resolution, the NEC directed the NWC to immediately initiate legal proceedings to reclaim the seats of all national and state lawmakers who were elected on the PDP platform but have since defected to other political parties.
NEC also expressed serious concern over reports of some PDP members participating in the activities and meetings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
“NEC calls on these members to reconsider their actions and show loyalty and commitment as members of the PDP, especially as the law does not permit membership of two political parties at the same time,” Ologunagba warned.
The NEC further scheduled its next meeting for August 25, 2025, as the party intensifies preparations for its upcoming national convention and broader political strategy.
