Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has passed away at the age of 78. The former minister passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 78. His passing was announced in a statement by his family:
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather; Chief Audu Ogbeh. He passed away on the 9th of August 2025 at the fulfilled age of 78.
“He departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community. We are comforted by the many lives he touched and the example he set.”
A former university lecturer and a distinguished farmer, Chief Ogbeh began his political career in 1979 when he was elected to the Benue State House of Assembly, serving as Deputy Speaker. He went on to hold ministerial positions under Presidents Shehu Shagari and Muhammadu Buhari, and between 2001 and 2005, he served as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Until recently, he was Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), remaining an influential voice in national affairs.
Known for his eloquence, principled leadership, and commitment to agriculture, Chief Ogbeh’s work spanned politics, business, and advocacy. His contributions to Nigerian governance and rural development earned him widespread respect.
The family has requested privacy during this period of mourning and will announce funeral arrangements in due course. They extend gratitude to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support.
