Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned what he described as a “gangster-like” invasion of his Presidential Library complex in Abeokuta by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) alleged that more than 50 armed EFCC officers, led by one “Olapade,” stormed the Green Legacy Hotel within the complex around 2 a.m., disrupting a pool party, firing gunshots, and injuring several guests.
“They threatened to kill people… This gangster-like action caused chaos,” said Kayode Adeyemi, Special Adviser on Media to Obasanjo.
According to OOPL, the heavily armed men arrived without showing any warrant. “They were shooting guns, threatening to kill people, and claiming to be from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),” Adeyemi added.
The EFCC team reportedly claimed they were acting on intelligence about a private event, but OOPL insists the party had been publicly advertised days earlier. “The invasion… caused panic and chaos, resulting in serious injuries as participants tried to escape the near carnage,” the statement said.
OOPL vowed to hold the EFCC, the Police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) accountable, demanding explanations, a formal apology, and warning of possible legal action.
