The Obafemi Awolowo University Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA) has confirmed the death of one of its members, who reportedly took his own life shortly after the release of examination results.

In a statement signed by IFUDSA President, Adebayo Idris, the association described the incident as a “devastating loss” and a reminder of the silent struggles faced by many students.

“This loss is not just the departure of a promising young mind, but a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him,” the statement read.

The association urged students to seek help, support each other, and prioritise mental health. It also reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for improved student welfare and mental health support to prevent future tragedies.

“Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should ever feel alone in their struggles,” IFUDSA stated.

The news has left many in shock, prompting renewed conversations on mental health awareness in Nigerian universities.
