Over 69 percent of petrol consumed in Nigeria in June 2025 came from imports, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The NMDPRA’s July report, presented to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), showed that Nigeria consumed 1.478 billion litres of petrol in June. Of this volume, only 455.18 million litres were sourced from local refineries, while 1.023 billion litres were imported.

The total petrol supplied in June marked a 16.42 percent drop from the 1.768 billion litres recorded in May. Truck-out volumes also declined to 1.44 billion litres, compared to 1.67 billion litres in the previous month.

Average daily petrol supply in June stood at 49.28 million litres — 34.10 million litres from imports and 15.17 million litres from local refining. This was 13.65 percent lower than the 57.06 million litres daily average in May.

For Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), total consumption in June reached 432.18 million litres, a 1.73 percent increase from 424.83 million litres in May. Of this, 378.13 million litres were imported, while 58.05 million litres came from local refineries.

Average daily diesel supply was 14.41 million litres, with imports accounting for 12.60 million litres and local refineries providing 1.80 million litres.
