Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a full investigation into Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, over alleged unruly behaviour at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The probe follows a formal petition from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over the August 5, 2025 incident, which reportedly violated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.
In a statement on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the IGP directed the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, to “immediately commence a thorough investigation into the matter, to unravel the circumstances which led to the ugly incident and ensure justice is served accordingly.”
Adejobi said the police remain committed to aviation safety and will continue working closely with industry regulators. “The Force hereby assures the public of its commitment to upholding safety and security within Nigeria’s aviation sector, while assuring stakeholders of improved collaboration towards aviation security and strict compliance with aviation laws,” he added.
It was gathered that the altercation began when KWAM 1 attempted to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos carrying a flask that aviation staff suspected contained alcohol, a prohibited item on domestic flights. When asked to surrender it, the singer reportedly refused and allegedly blocked the aircraft from taxiing, escalating tensions.
Following the incident, the NCAA suspended the licences of the flight’s captain, Oluranti Ogoyi, and first officer, Ivan Iloba, while placing KWAM 1 on a six-month no-fly list across all Nigerian carriers pending investigation.
KWAM 1 later issued an apology, saying it was never his intention to breach aviation rules or inconvenience other passengers.
However, public calls for his prosecution grew louder after Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger, was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre over allegations of assaulting flight crew and security personnel on a separate Uyo–Lagos flight.
