Nigeria was plunged into yet another blackout on Wednesday following the collapse of the national electricity grid.Data from the Independent System Operator (ISO) showed that power generation nosedived from 2,917.83 megawatts (MW) to just 1.5MW between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., confirming the grid failure.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in a statement to its customers said the outage across its franchise areas was caused by the grid collapse, which occurred around 11:23 a.m.

“Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 hrs today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas. Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the AEDC statement read.

The distribution company also urged customers to reach out for further updates or inquiries via its call line: 08039070070, or WhatsApp: 08152141414, 08152151515.
