Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja.
Obi disclosed the visit in a post on his official X handle, describing Jonathan as an “elder brother, statesman, and leader.” He added that their discussions centred on pressing national issues and the state of the country.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, is widely expected to run again in 2027. While he has publicly expressed support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he has yet to formally resign from the Labour Party or declare his membership of the ADC.
On the other hand, former President Jonathan, who lost his re-election bid in 2015, has faced recurring calls from some political groups to contest again, though he has not publicly commented on such suggestions.
The details of Thursday’s meeting were not disclosed, but political observers note that the engagement between the two figures could carry significant weight in shaping alliances ahead of 2027.
