A branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Lagos Island was engulfed in flames on Tuesday afternoon, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and sparking panic in the busy commercial district.
Viral videos from the scene show the intensity of the blaze, with one clip capturing a man climbing down a ladder from the burning building while others steadied it to aid evacuation.
Emergency services quickly mobilised to the scene to battle the inferno and prevent further spread. As of press time, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities have yet to confirm if there were any casualties.
Eyewitnesses said parts of the building sustained heavy damage as firefighters worked to contain the situation.
