On the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled to hold in New York, United States, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
According to a statement from the Presidency, Shettima will join world leaders to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations on Monday, September 22, at the UN headquarters in New York, before participating in the high-level General Debates running from Tuesday, September 23 to Sunday, September 28.
The Vice President is billed to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on behalf of President Tinubu on Wednesday, September 24, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).
Shettima will also attend a special Climate Event for Heads of State and Government, convened by the UN Secretary-General on Wednesday, where Nigeria is expected to announce its new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.
In addition, the Vice President will participate in a high-level roundtable of the Global Champions on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya on the same day, and hold several bilateral meetings with global leaders and development partners.
After the UNGA engagements, Shettima will proceed to Frankfurt, Germany, for a meeting with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
