Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has been conferred with honorary citizenship of the State of Georgia, USA, during a series of high-level engagements in Washington, D.C., as part of the Black Congressional Week events.
Obi revealed the development in a statement on X on Friday, noting that the day’s activities began with the Congressional Black Caucus Week Reception at the U.S. Senate Kennedy Caucus Room, hosted by Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. Senator Warnock urged him to share insights on African democracy and development.
He also met with executives of Georgia Power, the state’s largest independent power company, where he held discussions with CEO Kim Clark on electricity generation and distribution.
Additionally, Obi participated in the One Voice Africa event, an advocacy forum for the dignity of Black immigrants, where he encouraged stronger interest in promoting good governance across Africa.
Describing the conferment as the “highlight of the day,” Obi said the engagements reinforced his commitment to building a new Nigeria founded on visionary and responsible leadership.
