The Nigerian Senate resumed plenary on Tuesday after a 10-week recess, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio presiding over the session and urging lawmakers to rededicate themselves to accountability and effective governance.

A key highlight of the resumption was the return of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, who made her first appearance in the chamber after serving a six-month suspension.

In his opening remarks, Senate President Akpabio charged members to uphold the trust of Nigerians and focus on delivering tangible results.

“To the citizens of Nigeria, we hear you,” Akpabio said. “You asked us not for excuses, but for results. We will remain accountable and responsive.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s return marked the end of a period of tension that followed her suspension earlier in the year. She had made several unsuccessful attempts to resume plenary before finally reclaiming her seat on Tuesday.

The upper chamber is expected to deliberate on key national issues, including the 2026 budget framework, rising inflation, and ongoing constitutional amendment bills, in the coming weeks.
