A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to marry within 60 days, following their appearance in viral videos deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.

Delivering the ruling on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali directed the Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage between the duo, warning that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would amount to contempt of court.

The court also instructed the Chairman of the Censorship Board to supervise the implementation of the order.

The case stemmed from a series of viral clips showing the pair in romantic and suggestive scenes, which the authorities said contravened Kano’s moral and religious codes.

Both TikTokers were previously arraigned for allegedly producing and sharing obscene content on social media. Mai Wushirya was at one point remanded in a correctional facility after the videos spread widely online.

Officials of the Censorship Board maintained that the clips breached state laws against the production and circulation of sexually suggestive material, reiterating the government’s stance on preserving public morality.
