President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a two-year extension for the Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGoF), Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin, whose tenure will now run until January 5, 2028.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the extension — which takes effect from January 5, 2026 — was necessitated by the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency, as well as the ongoing reforms initiated under Adebomehin’s leadership.
The President expressed confidence in Adebomehin’s capacity to consolidate and complete ongoing reforms in key areas of geospatial data systems, national land management, and infrastructure coordination.
“The President expects Mr. Adebomehin to focus on consolidating reforms in national land management and administration, highways and abutting land infrastructure coordination, reclamation and erosion control programmes, and other related matters of strategic national importance,” the statement said.
Adebomehin, who was appointed as Surveyor-General of the Federation by the late President Muhammadu Buhari on January 5, 2022, has led several initiatives aimed at modernising Nigeria’s geospatial and land information systems.
His tenure has seen efforts to digitise land records, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and improve data-driven decision-making for national planning and infrastructure development.
The two-year extension is expected to enable him to complete these reforms and ensure continuity in the implementation of Nigeria’s evolving geospatial policy framework under the supervision of the Presidency.
