The Akpabio family has officially excommunicated Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio, wife of one of their members, after she publicly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of involvement in alleged political killings during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State.

The decision was announced on Tuesday in a statement signed by Joe Akpabio, who spoke on behalf of the Greater Akpabio Family, saying Patience had brought “ridicule and shame” to the family through her public remarks and “disparaging videos.”

“The attention of our family, THE GREATER AKPABIO FAMILY, has been drawn to various viral videos in circulation of a certain wife in our family, Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio, making disparaging comments and insulting our great son in the person of the Senate President, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, his dear wife, Her Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, and others,” the statement read.

Joe Akpabio revealed that the family had earlier served Patience with a traditional injunction warning her to desist from making further statements about the Senate President and his wife. However, she allegedly ignored the warning, prompting the family to take a stronger stance.

“Regrettably and most unfortunately, she has continued in her tirade thus ignoring the injunction by the family. This in itself has brought the family to public ridicule, shame and is suggestive of a family unable to manage its members,” the statement continued.

Describing her conduct as “destructive” and “an affront to the family’s core values,” the family reaffirmed its support for the Senate President and his wife, emphasizing that Patience no longer represents or belongs to the Akpabio family. “We hereby place a disclaimer on the person of Mrs. Patience Ibanga Akpabio as being a wife, representative, and/or member of the Greater Akpabio Family while also excommunicating her from the family,” Joe Akpabio declared.

The statement warned the public to refrain from engaging with Patience as a member of the family, adding that she had “pushed us to this line of action by her untoward and satanic actions.”

The family’s move comes after Patience Akpabio’s viral videos in early October, where she accused the Senate President of orchestrating political killings and other acts during his time as Akwa Ibom governor, allegations which the Senate President has firmly denied.
