The Senate on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bernard Doro as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
Doro, who hails from Plateau State, replaces Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who resigned after being appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His screening session lasted less than 30 minutes, with senators commending his extensive professional background and leadership qualities.
In his brief remarks before the lawmakers, Doro pledged to promote fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness in managing the nation’s humanitarian and poverty reduction programmes.
“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is inclusive, guided by impartiality and independence,” he assured.
Following a review of his credentials, the Senate unanimously confirmed his nomination after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, asked him to “take a bow and leave.”
Earlier, Akpabio had read a letter from President Tinubu requesting Doro’s confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
In a statement, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Doro as “a highly qualified professional with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.”
Born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven Business Strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice.
He is also an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner, with frontline experience across the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), including urgent care centres, GP practices, and hospitals.
With Thursday’s confirmation, Dr. Doro is expected to be sworn in as a member of the Federal Executive Council at its next meeting.
