Following his undying passion for the less privilege and vulnerable in the society, Kogi state-born journalist, Arogbonlo Israel has not only touched the lives of Makoko residents but also recorded a great feat in the book of history as not less than 50 kids across the state have benefited from medical outreach facilitated by the philanthropist.
Addressing newsmen on Monday, Mr. Arogbonlo said the gesture to empower young people and the needy started two years back.
“This outreach today (Monday, June 28) is inspired by my unrelenting love for humanity and the passion to give back to the society. In 2018, I started an initiative aimed at marking my birthday and in turn, impacting lives around.
“For me, birthday is not just a celebration of one’s existence on earth but also an avenue to touch lives in our own little ways. This is what orchestrated the initiative, and it’s my delight to say that God has really been helping me to make mark in the best way I can.
“I specifically chose this place (Oko-Agbon, Makoko) as a result of the dirty environment, and in turn, plan to reach out to the residents with the hope of empowering them medically. Today, we’re able to attend to not less than 50 families who were all tested to ascertain their state of health. We also recommended drugs for them to use so as to stay healthy. We hope to work with the results of this testing exercise for further research and intervention.”
One of the beneficiaries, who identified herself as Williams Hunkonnu described the gestures by the organisers as angelic visitation.
“We really like this initiative. It’s indeed done us good and we will never take your gestures for granted. We pray God keep enriching everyone that contributed towards raising fund for this intervention,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Christian Justina said the visitation has impacted her positively as she has been sick for a while before the intervention but now she has drugs to take care of her ill health.
