The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a robbery syndicate accused of targeting bank customers in Kumasi and neighbouring communities in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35. Another alleged member of the group, identified as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, is currently being sought by the police.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.
According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended during an intelligence-driven operation carried out at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31 by a special police team comprising officers from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The operation began at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where Aboy Promise and Uwalaka were arrested. A search of their belongings reportedly led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key suspected to have been used to break into vehicles belonging to bank customers.
The police said the two men allegedly admitted participating in the robberies during interrogation and identified Kingsley, also known as KC, and Chinedu, alias Alhaji, as their accomplices.
Acting on the information, the special team proceeded to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was arrested. Chinedu, however, remains at large.
Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew large sums of money and followed them before attacking them.
The suspects were also accused of using a master key to gain access to unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and stealing cash and other valuables.
The police further alleged that the three arrested men confessed to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, shortly after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They were also linked to similar incidents around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations across Kumasi and its environs.
The suspects have been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where they are assisting with investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to residents to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect.
The Command also advised bank customers to remain alert when withdrawing large amounts of money and watch out for suspicious individuals around banking facilities.
Motorists were equally warned against leaving cash and other valuables inside unattended vehicles.
Anyone with information about Chinedu’s whereabouts has been urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ghana Police Service through its emergency lines 191 and 112, or the toll-free MTN and Telecel number 18555.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities in the Ashanti Region and commended residents for supporting security operations.
