A 28-year-old widow, Tosin, has appealed for help after accusing members of her late husband’s family of assaulting her and attempting to seize his assets just days after his death.
The allegations surfaced in posts shared on social media by activist Harrison Gwamnishu, who claimed Tosin’s husband died on July 20, 2026, following a prolonged illness.
According to Gwamnishu, the widow’s father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law and his wife moved into the deceased’s residence in Ikorodu, Lagos, shortly after his burial and allegedly instructed Tosin and her two young sons to restrict all their belongings to a single room.
He further alleged that some of the deceased’s assets had already been distributed among family members, while efforts were underway to dispose of his car.
Videos circulating online also captured a confrontation between the widow and her father-in-law.
In one of the clips, Tosin is heard crying out in Yoruba, “Ẹ̀ ń ní mí lára! Ẹ̀ ń ní mí lára!” which translates to, “You all are oppressing me! You all are stressing me!”
Speaking through tears in another part of the video, she alleged that she was physically attacked by members of her late husband’s family.
“They were not supposed to do anything to me! They started beating me. They are not even supposed to do anything to me, they are not supposed to touch me. I am weak, I am hungry, I am tired. That was how everything happened, he started beating me, dragging my phone, and threw me on the floor. What if I hit my head on the floor?” she said.
Gwamnishu also shared another video showing the widow’s father-in-law allegedly locking the compound gate and leaving her outside the house, despite claims that he owns a separate residence.
The activist further alleged that Tosin has received threats since speaking publicly about the incident.
He called on the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) and the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the allegations and ensure the widow receives protection and justice.
“No widow should have to fight for dignity, shelter, and justice just days after losing her husband,” Gwamnishu said.
Neither the family members accused in the allegations nor the Lagos State authorities had publicly responded to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
