Residents of Jikwoyi have been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of 29-year-old Blessing Moshood, whose lifeless body was discovered inside a canal under disturbing circumstances.

Blessing, a Sociology graduate of Kogi State University, reportedly left her family home on Thursday night after receiving a phone call from an unidentified person.

According to her sister, Abigail Moshood, the deceased later called back to say she was returning home briefly to pick up her phone charger, which she had forgotten.

Sadly, that was the last time the family heard from her.

Concern grew after Blessing failed to return home throughout the night and remained unreachable the following day despite several attempts to contact her.

The family’s fears intensified when reports emerged that the body of a woman had been found in a canal within the neighbourhood. Abigail said the hairstyle described by residents immediately matched her sister’s appearance.

In tears, Abigail revealed that officers from the Jikwoyi Police Station had already evacuated the body, which was reportedly found half-naked, wearing only a top, before depositing it at a mortuary in Mararaba.

She added that she later visited the police station where officers showed her photographs of the corpse, confirming the heartbreaking discovery.

The grieving family is now calling on the government and the Inspector General of Police to ensure justice is served and those responsible for the killing are brought to book.

Meanwhile, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
