The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 53-year-old lecturer, Abdulfatai Aiyede, who reportedly collapsed and died while visiting a young woman in Minna, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Friday, January 30, 2026.
According to the police, Aiyede travelled from Bida to Minna to visit a 25-year-old woman identified as Stella Joseph, a nursing student residing along Niteco Road in the Tunga area of Minna.
Abiodun stated that during the visit, Stella served her guest a meal, after which he allegedly began to convulse and suddenly collapsed.
“He was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Minna for medical attention, where he was later confirmed dead,” the statement said.
The police spokesperson added that the incident was reported to the Tudun-Wada Divisional Police Headquarters at about 10:00 a.m. on January 27, 2026.
“The Niger State Police Command wishes to confirm that on 27/1/26 at about 10am, report received from Tudun-Wada Div indicated that one Abdulfatai Aiyede of about 53yrs of age came to Minna from Bida and visited a friend identified as Stella Joseph aged 25yrs at Niteco Road, Tunga, Minna,” Abiodun stated.
“During the visit, it was reported that Stella served her guest some food, later allegedly convulsing and collapsing. The victim was taken to the General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.”
Abiodun further disclosed that Stella Joseph has been arrested, while the deceased’s body has been deposited for medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.
He said the families of both parties have been contacted and investigations are ongoing, assuring that further developments would be communicated as the case progresses.
