Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, announced the result early Sunday after the final collation in Osogbo, the state capital.
Ogunwole, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, said Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious.
Oyebamiji finished second with 444,815 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11.
The election took place against the backdrop of heightened political tension and reports of violence during the campaign period.
Although voting was largely peaceful in several areas, there were reports of disruptions and alleged harassment of journalists at some polling locations.
Technical difficulties involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) also caused delays at some polling units, extending the voting process in affected areas.
Despite the challenges, the election witnessed significant voter participation, with large numbers of voters turning out at polling stations across the state.
With the declaration, Adeleke will continue as governor of Osun State for another four-year term.
