Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has confirmed that he will proceed with a $500,000 donation to the Super Eagles, even after Nigeria’s exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at the semi-final stage.
The Super Eagles were eliminated on Wednesday after losing 4–2 on penalties to hosts Morocco, following a goalless draw after extra time. Misses from Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno Onyemaechi proved decisive in the shootout, denying Nigeria a place in the final.
Before the match, Rabiu had publicly promised to reward the team with $500,000 if they defeated Morocco, alongside a bonus of $50,000 for each goal scored. Despite the loss, the business magnate announced on social media that he would still fulfil the pledge.
Rabiu described the donation as a gesture of appreciation for the team’s commitment and performance throughout the tournament, commending the players for their determination and resilience.
According to him, the Super Eagles displayed courage, unity and passion on the pitch, qualities he said were worthy of recognition regardless of the final result. He noted that while the desired outcome was not achieved, the team’s effort and fighting spirit had made Nigerians proud.
Nigeria will now shift focus to the third-place match against Egypt on Saturday, where they will aim to end their AFCON 2025 campaign with a bronze medal.
