An Italian Catholic priest, Sandro Ferretto, who spent 12 years serving in Kenya’s Baringo County, has left the priesthood and married a Kenyan woman, Sharon Jepng’ok.
Ferretto, 55, reportedly married Jepng’ok on September 6 in Seretion Village, Kasiela, where he previously served as a parish priest.
According to The Kenyan Times, the wedding ceremony was held at the same community where Ferretto had carried out his pastoral duties.
“The wedding took place at Seretion Village, Kasiela, where Ferretto once served as parish priest,” the report stated.
The couple also participated in a Koito ceremony, a traditional Kalenjin rite associated with dowry negotiations and the formal blessing of a union by the families.
“The couple held a Koito ceremony, the Kalenjin customary rite for dowry negotiation and family blessing,” the report added.
Videos from the wedding have since circulated widely on social media, including footage showing the former priest dancing alongside his new wife during the celebrations.
Reports indicate that Ferretto resigned from the Catholic priesthood in 2023.
Despite leaving the priesthood, he reportedly returned to Kenya to marry Jepng’ok, whom he had developed a relationship with.
His wedding has attracted attention online, particularly because of his long association with the Baringo community and his decision to return to the area for the marriage ceremony.
