A High Court of Delta State sitting in Orerokpe has issued an interim order preventing the Nigeria Police Force from proceeding with the planned enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy across the country.

In the ruling delivered on Wednesday, the court restrained the Inspector General of Police and the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, along with their officers and agents, from implementing the policy scheduled to take effect on January 2, 2026. The order also prohibits the police from stopping, intimidating, arresting, detaining, or extorting motorists or members of the public in connection with the permit enforcement.

The court further directed that the police must discontinue the use of a private bank account linked to Parkway Projects for the conduct of any official government transactions, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

Justice Joe Egwu granted the orders after hearing an ex-parte application filed by a Nigerian citizen, Mr. Israel Joe, in suit number HOR/FHR/M.3/2025. The applicant was represented by senior advocate Kunle Edun, SAN, alongside a team of other legal practitioners.

According to the ruling, all the restraining orders will remain in force until the court hears and decides the main application. The judge also approved substituted service of court processes on the respondents through the Delta State Police Command Headquarters in Asaba, declaring such service valid.

The decision effectively suspends the earlier announcement by the Nigeria Police Force on the resumption of the tinted glass permit enforcement, pending further proceedings before the court.
