The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a man identified as Bilal Muhammad before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N600,000 fraud involving the purchase of a commercial tricycle.
Muhammad was arraigned on Monday, September 7, 2026, by the EFCC Maiduguri Zonal Directorate before Justice B.T. Zanna on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence.
The EFCC alleged that Muhammad, the Chief Executive Officer of GDF Homes Sale Enterprises Limited, collected a total of N600,000 from a petitioner for the purchase of a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep, but allegedly failed to provide the vehicle or refund the money.
One of the charges alleged that Muhammad obtained the money in 2025 in Maiduguri, Borno State, under the guise of selling a Keke Napep.
The charge reads: “That you, Bilal Muhammad CEO of GDF Homes Sale Enterprises Limited, sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did obtain the sum of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) under the guise of selling Keke Napep and thereby committed an offence contrary to 1 (1)(a) & (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under 1 (3) of the same Act.”
Muhammad pleaded “not guilty” when the charges were read to him.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel, A.D. Abdulmalik, asked the court to fix a date for trial and remand the defendant in EFCC custody.
Justice Zanna subsequently adjourned the case until September 22, 2026, for the commencement of hearing and ordered that Muhammad remain in the EFCC facility pending further proceedings.
