Former Minister of Labour and Employment and one-time Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

His former media aide, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, confirmed the development on Tuesday, dispelling earlier rumours circulating on social media that suggested the ex-minister had been abducted.
In his clarification, Chukwuelobe stated: “Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

Ngige, who served in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet for eight years, returned to public discourse last week after armed men ambushed his convoy in Anambra State. Although he was not inside the vehicle during the attack, the incident triggered widespread concern about his security.

The EFCC has yet to disclose the grounds for his arrest. As of the time this report was filed, no official statement has been released regarding the allegations or the scope of the investigation.
