Former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, has been official sworn in as a senator in Colombia.
Ortiz, who is popular known by her stage name, Amaranta Hank, secured her seat in parliament following a March election victory where she campaigned heavily on a platform advocating for the rights and protections of adult entertainment workers.
According to reports by Colombian news outlet El Tiempo, Omaña will represent the Norte de Santander region of Colombia under the leftist Historic Pact bloc for the 2026–2030 parliamentary term, after placing 23rd on the coalition’s closed list.
The Historic Pact is currently recognized as the strongest political force in the country, with official data from Colombia’s National Registry showing that the bloc secured 22.72 per cent of the Senate vote, amounting to over 4.4 million ballots and translating to 25 seats in parliament.
The new lawmaker, who originally transitioned from journalism into the adult film industry before returning to public life, has insisted that her past background should not be a barrier to her legislative duties.
According to Infobae Colombia, she argued that women who have worked in the sexual economy actively contribute to the country’s finances and deserve proper legal recognition rather than persistent social stigma.
Addressing her critics directly in a TikTok video, she pushed back against those questioning her fitness for political office.
“Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she asked.
The Cúcuta-born lawmaker stated that her broader policy agenda in the Senate will focus heavily on mental health awareness and anti-sexual abuse initiatives.
Her political emergence marks one of the most closely watched developments in recent Colombian political history, coming just months after her appointment alongside fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián as a deputy minister in the Ministry of Equality sparked widespread controversy within President Gustavo Petro’s cabinet.
