Former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Emeka Rollas, has publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, her mother Rita Daniels, Senator Ned Nwoko, and several of his colleagues in the film industry over controversial comments he made during the actress’s marital crisis last year.
Rollas, who tendered the apology in a detailed statement shared on his Instagram page on Thursday, disclosed that he had reflected deeply on how he handled the matter and expressed regret over the timing and platform he chose to voice his thoughts.
Recall that in November 2025, the former AGN head publicly weighed in on the marital friction involving Regina and Senator Nwoko. At the time, Rollas claimed the young actress “needs help” and went on to call out several senior actors whom he alleged had witnessed various incidents involving her.
He had also directed harsh criticisms at Rita Daniels regarding her involvement in the AGN leadership race, while tackling issues surrounding Senator Nwoko, who was then serving as the chairman of the guild’s Board of Patrons.
However, in his latest statement, Rollas expressed regret for making those comments at a time when the family was navigating a tough situation.
“Sometimes, with the passage of time, we look back at our actions and realise that being right about an issue does not necessarily mean we handled it the right way,” he wrote.
Disclosing what triggered his sudden change of heart, Rollas explained that a chance meeting with Rita Daniels provided him with a moment of sobering reflection.
“A recent coincidental encounter with Mrs Rita Daniels, where some people tried to make peace between us, gave me another opportunity to reflect,” he noted.
Following the encounter, he offered an unreserved apology to Rita Daniels and her family, Senator Nwoko and his family, Regina Daniels, the AGN Board of Trustees, and notable colleagues including Okey Bakassi, Charles Inojie, Chinyere Wilfred, Jide Kosoko, Sanni Danji, Agility, and Nazareth Jesse.
“I am sorry,” Rollas stated simply.
He made it clear that his apology was unconditional, acknowledging that forgiving him remains entirely at the discretion of the aggrieved parties.
“Whether or not anyone chooses to accept my apology is entirely their decision. I am making it because, after looking back, I am not proud of how I handled that moment,” he said.
While admitting that his personal views on some of the underlying issues have not necessarily changed, Rollas insisted he takes full responsibility for his public conduct and poor timing.
“I may still hold my convictions about some of the issues I raised then, but I take responsibility for my actions and my timing,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to moving past the conflict, the former guild president emphasized that he has resolved to tread a path defined by “peace, reconciliation, dignity and respect” going forward.
“Leadership is not only about having the courage to speak. It is also about having the humility to acknowledge when we could have spoken differently, waited longer, or chosen a better path,” he added.
