Former Chairman of Skye Bank Plc, Tunde Ayeni, was reportedly robbed of his wedding ring and a luxury wristwatch said to be worth over ₦120 million during a raid at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
According to sources within the correctional facility, the operation was allegedly carried out by senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service led by the Deputy Controller-General of Operations alongside officers attached to the centre.
Sources also alleged that suspended former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, lost about ₦2 million during the same operation.
Insiders told SaharaReporters that armed operatives stormed the prison yard with DSS dogs while wearing bulletproof vests, creating panic among inmates.
One source claimed that Ayeni’s valuables were confiscated during what prison authorities reportedly described as a routine search exercise inside the custodial facility.
The incident has allegedly heightened tension within the prison, with some inmates accusing officials of intimidation and abuse of power.
Another source disclosed that Ayeni is considering filing a formal petition against officers allegedly involved in the operation.
The report also alleged that cash and valuables belonging to several high-profile detainees were seized without proper documentation or accountability during the search.
Ayeni is currently standing trial over alleged fraud amounting to about ₦15.7 billion. He was recently granted bail of ₦200 million by an Abuja High Court under strict conditions.
Meanwhile, Abba Kyari remains in custody while facing trial over allegations linked to drug trafficking and related offences.
