The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the deployment of thousands of security personnel across Abuja ahead of the February 21, 2026 FCT Area Council Elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the large-scale deployment forms part of a comprehensive operational order designed to ensure a peaceful, free and fair electoral process.

The security arrangement includes personnel drawn from sister agencies such as the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), among others.

Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, charged officers to maintain professionalism and provide adequate security coverage at polling units and collation centres throughout the territory.

He emphasised the need for vigilance, impartiality and respect for citizens’ rights, urging officers to remain courteous while carrying out their duties.

The command also announced a restriction of movement across the Federal Capital Territory from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on election day, February 21. The restriction will exempt essential service providers and election officials.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with security agencies and comply with operational guidelines during the period.

The police assured voters that sufficient security measures have been put in place to guarantee safety and encouraged residents to come out peacefully to exercise their civic responsibility.

Members of the public were also advised to report any suspicious activity to the police through the designated emergency lines provided by the command.
