FIFA’s plans to sell a stake in part of its commercial business to outside investors have reportedly collapsed following strong opposition from football officials around the world and disagreements among senior executives within the organisation.
According to a report by the New York Post, FIFA had been seeking to raise up to $4.2 billion by selling approximately 20 per cent of a newly created commercial entity, a deal that would have valued the business at about $20 billion.
However, the proposed transaction is no longer being pursued after facing resistance from key stakeholders and divisions among top FIFA officials.
According to the New York Post, the investment plan has effectively been abandoned following the internal pushback.
