Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde has formally expressed interest in succeeding the late Awujale of Ijebuland, submitting a letter to the Fusengbuwa ruling house indicating his readiness to be considered for the revered traditional throne.

In the letter dated December 3, 2025, Ayinde said his aspiration was rooted in his heritage as a direct descendant of the Oba Jadiara lineage of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, which he said confers eligibility under Ijebu customs and Ogun State chieftaincy laws.

“I, Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adewale Olasunkanmi Omogbolahan Anifowoshe, MON, hereby notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the stool of the Awujale,” he wrote, adding that his ancestry and decades of promoting Yoruba and Nigerian culture through music prepared him for such a role.

Ayinde highlighted several honours he has received, including being named Mayegun of Yorubaland in 2020, his elevation as Olori Omo-Oba and Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu in 2023 by the late monarch, and his national award as a Member of the Order of the Niger in 2022.

He also expressed optimism that the selection process would conclude soon, noting that tradition permits it to be finalised “within weeks.”

Confirming the receipt of his letter, Abdul Lateef Adebayo Owoyemi, chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house, said in a statement that Ayinde’s declaration had been acknowledged promptly, just as others received earlier.

Owoyemi urged family members to remain calm as the process continues, expressing confidence that a peaceful resolution is near.
“In Sha Allah, we are close to a joyous and successful conclusion of this sacred and historic exercise,” he said.
