The Government of Mexico has accepted the appointment of former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the country.

Omokri announced the development on Wednesday in a post on his X handle.

He stated that the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United Mexican States in Abuja, Mr. José Manuel Briseño Flores, delivered the official diplomatic agreement.

According to him, the document was delivered today in Abuja to the Director of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Babagana Wakil.

“To God be the glory, the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the United Mexican States in Abuja, Mr José Manuel Briseño Flores, today in Abuja delivered the agrément from the Government of the United Mexican States accepting me, Bemigho Reno Omokri, to serve as Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Mexican States,” Omokri wrote.

Omokri added that he will serve as Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Mexican States, with concurrent accreditation to Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

President Bola Tinubu had nominated Omokri in November 2025 alongside 68 others, including former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The Senate confirmed the nominees in December 2025, while the President approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate on March 6, 2026, with Omokri assigned to Mexico City.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier disclosed that two countries Mexico and Japan were yet to issue their agreement but assured that consent would come in due course.

The delivery of the agreement officially completes the diplomatic process, signaling that Mexico has formally accepted Omokri as Nigeria’s envoy.
