A Nigerian woman has apologised after admitting that a viral image she shared, purportedly showing an Itel Power Tank after an explosion, was generated using artificial intelligence.
The woman had earlier posted the image online and claimed that the device had exploded, prompting reactions from social media users concerned about the reported incident.
She later admitted that the alleged explosion did not occur and that the image was created using AI.
“Please forgive me, the viral post I made of Itel Solar Power Tank explosion was AI generated, it didn’t happen,” she said in her apology.
Her admission has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users criticising her for presenting an AI-generated image as a real-life incident.
Others questioned the reason behind creating and sharing the image, particularly given the potential to cause concern among users of the product.
