The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, marking the end of a brief but impactful reign.
The revered monarch reportedly joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, Just one year after ascending the throne of his father’s as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin’s death comes just two days after celebrating his 90th birthday. His ascension to the throne followed the passing of Oba Lekan Balogun, whom he succeeded in 2024.
The late monarch was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024, during a grand ceremony that drew dignitaries from across the country.
Details about burial arrangements and official mourning periods are expected to be announced by the Olubadan-in-Council and the Oyo State Government in the coming days.
